Reconstruction talk:Proto-Germanic/drūgiz
This root exhibit parallels with Balto-Slavic **drug-is > *drъžь (“tremor”), Latvian drudzis (“fever”), Lithuanian drugỹs (“malaria”). One could explain the semantic difference, by reconstructing a proto-meaning shaking, convulsing. It is not far-fetched to derive from it both trembling and drying, draining, so I suppose that the two may have a common origin. I checked Derksen's and Vasmer's dictionaries on proto-Slavic, but neither mentions any relation to the Germanic lemma. Is there anything mentioned in the literature on Germanic?
