Reconstruction talk:Proto-Germanic/skulō

Old High German scuola has this sense, which makes the reconstruction very unlikely. It's probably simply the Latin schola, which also came to mean "troop", a totally unproblematic semantic development. Otherwise, Latin schola ("troop") would have to be a Germanic borrowing, which then influenced Old High German *scola in such a way that it became scuola. All newer German and Dutch dictionaries reject a Germanic origin, as far as I can see.
