Etymology

From Old High German *sculdra, *sculdira, northern variants of scultra, scultera, from Proto-Germanic *skuldrô. The -d- is probably not preserved from the original form, but was at some point reintroduced in Scholler as a gliding sound between the two liquids.

Pronunciation

Noun

Scholder f (plural Scholdere)

  1. (many dialects of Ripuarian) shoulder
    • Lines from the famous BAP song “Verdamp lang her” [1]:
Wä alles, wenn ’t dir klapp, hinger dir herrennt, ding Scholder klopp, wä dich nit all hofiert,
Sich, ohne rut ze wääde, dinge Fründ nennt un dich daachs drop janz einfach ignoriert.
All those who’ll dangle after you when things work out for you, slap your shoulder, all those who’ll adulate you,
Who’ll call themselves friends of yours without blushing and simply ignore you the very next day.
