Documentation for Template:RQ:Thompson Works. [edit]
This page contains usage information, categories, interwiki links and other content describing the template.

Usage[edit]

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote from a collection of Francis Thompson's works entitled The Works of Francis Thompson (1913, 3 volumes). It can be used to create a link to online versions of these works at the Internet Archive:

Parameters[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |volume=mandatory: the volume number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, from |volume=I to |volume=III.
  • |2=, |chapter=, or |poem=mandatory: the name of the chapter (if a prose work) or poem quoted from. If quoting from a title indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:
The Works of Francis Thompson
Parameter value Result First page number
Volume I (Poetry)
The Hound of Heaven The Hound of Heaven (1893) page 105
Ode to the Setting Sun Ode to the Setting Sun (1889) page 115
  • |stanza= – the stanza number quoted from in Roman numerals (if stated in the work) or Arabic numerals (if not stated).
  • |3= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
You must specify this information to have the template link to an online version of the work.
  • |line= or |lines= – the line number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of lines, separate the first and last line numbers with an en dash, like this |lines=10–11.
  • |4=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
