We don't use redirects; each form gets its own entry. See WT:AJ. Thanks! Robert Ullmann 11:15, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No redirects[edit]

A reminder: Do not create redirects from one spelling to another. See Wiktionary:Redirections. --EncycloPetey 21:33, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was informed for the first time about the article Wiktionary:Redirections. Also, I was not aware that deletes were preferred over redirects. Thanks. —Tokek 21:51, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The comment above, from one year ago, tells you that redirects are not acceptable on Wiktionary. --EncycloPetey 21:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I was informed for the first time about the article Wiktionary:Redirections and that deletes were preferred over redirects. The last time I got the message the redirect was replaced with a near-duplicate article. Sorry if I sounded like I was making a false statement.—Tokek 21:58, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Reviewing the article you linked, I would say that it is an excellent guide for dealing with English dictionary terms because it takes into account such intricacies such as British English and American English spelling differences, hyphenation and capitalization issues. When it is appropriate for a redirect and when it is more appropriate for two separate articles to exist for the English language. —Tokek 12:04, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The article you've linked, Wiktionary:Redirections, states that content should not be replaced by redirects as a general rule of thumb, but this in no way prescribes that articles that were initially redirects should be deleted. It also states that redirects, which exist on Wiktionary, are acceptable in certain situations. Further, it covers only the scope of the English language, delegating language specific details to other articles. The redirect you deleted was not covered by the scope of the article you have referenced. —Tokek 12:35, 23 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Above discussion was referring to this deletion: [1]Tokek 12:13, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, but whether it says so or not, we generally do deleted bad redirects, as otherwise it gives the false impression that the entry exists. The reader then clicks on the entry, only to find that it doesn't exist, and he/she ends up somewhere else. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:08, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"but this in no way prescribes that articles that were initially redirects should be deleted" true, but there's nothing saying they should be kept either. Mglovesfun (talk) 12:47, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
