Etymology

From Latin caprīna, feminine of caprīnus (caprine). The (Daco-) Romanian equivalent term is now lost, but an obsolete, regional, and popular term căprină was once attested to mean "a rugged sheep with long, uncurly hair and a rough temperament" (hence goat-like).[1]
