Etymology

Probably ultimately from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Turkish gıdıklanmak. Compare Aromanian gadil, Bulgarian gădeličkam, Albanian gudulis. Other theories also existed, including the Latin catulīre, or *cattellāre, a derivation from the aforementioned Bulgarian, or a Dacian substratum word of Indo-European origin, compare *geid- (tickle) [1].
