Etymology

From Old Albanian gjuonj, from dialectal Tosk gjonj, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *jāgnja, denominative of *jaga (hunt). More at gjah. Alternatively from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *śāgn-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *seh₂G- (to trace (out), track). Cognate to Latin sagio (acute sentire, to feel). Phonetically, *seh₂G-mi is also possible.[1]
