Etymology

From Old Albanian gjuonj, from dialectal Tosk gjonj, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *jāgnja, denominative of *jaga (“hunt”). More at gjah. Alternatively from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Albanian *śāgn-, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *seh₂G- (“to trace (out), track”). Cognate to Latin sagio (“acute sentire, to feel”). Phonetically, *seh₂G-mi is also possible.
