Etymology
From Middle Welsh gwennawl, from Old Welsh guennol, from Proto-Celtic *wesnālā (“swallow”), from *wesr-/wesn- (“spring”) (compare Old Irish ainnel, fannall, Cornish guennol, Breton gwenneli).
