From Old Galician / Old Galician-Portuguese, from Latin glāndula (little acorn; tonsil), or from Vulgar Latin glandinem,[1] from Latin glāns (acorn), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷelh₂- (acorn). Doublet of glande or glándula. Compare also Spanish landre.
