Etymology

Uncertain. Usually thought to be a back formation of legăna, or from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Vulgar Latin root *lecanis, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek λεκάνη (lekánē). Compare Aromanian leagãn.
