mibegħda
Maltese
Etymology
Either inherited from rare Arabic مَبْغَضة (mabḡaḍa, “an object or cause of hatred”) or otherwise an independent formation from bagħad with the same measure. The underlying form is *mibgħda, where the epenthetic vowel obligatorily inserted before għ eventually attracted the tone. That the first syllable was originally stressed can be seen from the fact that its vowel was not elided.
