Etymology

From miell, because of its color; Serbo-Croatian лабуд (id), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European *h₂elbʰ (white). Structurally identical with Lithuanian melmuõ (kidney stone), Old Saxon melm (sand, dust) and Old High German melm (dust), both Proto-Germanic forms from *malmaz, *malmōn.
