From Proto-Basque *ziraŕ, possibly related to Proto-Germanic *silubrą, Proto-Slavic *sьrebro, Lithuanian sidabras, and English silver (from Proto-Germanic). This appears to be a pre-historic Wanderwort. For more detail, see the etymology section at silver.
