Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from French chambellan, from Frankish *kamarling, a compound of Latin camera (“chamber, room”) + *-ling (nominal suffix). While not etymologically related, a term with originally similar meaning found its way into Esperanto via Ancient Greek: eŭnuko (“eunuch”).
