[edit]Etymology
[edit]Perfect participle of διαφθείρομαι (diaftheíromai), passive voice of διαφθείρω (diaftheíro). Learnedly, from Ancient Greek διεφθαρμένος (diephtharménos, “destroyed”) & semantic loan from French corrompu.[1] Morphologically, from δι- (δια-) (di- (dia-)) + the ancient participle ἐφθαρμένος (ephtharménos), modern φθαρμένος (ftharménos, “worn out”) and formal εφθαρμένος (eftharménos).
