Etymology[edit]

Learned borrowing from Old Armenian Կուր (Kur), perhaps ultimately from Urartian 𒆳𒄣𒊑𒀀𒉌 (KURqu-ri-a-ni /Quriani/), a land possibly in the upper reaches of the Kura river.[1] The form Քուռ (Kʻuṙ) is probably a new borrowing from Persian.
