Etymology[edit]

English gerrymander +‎ ־עווען (-even). Note the use of גערי (geri) over דזשערי (dzheri) word-initially, possibly in reference to the original pronunciation of the surname of Elbridge Gerry with /g/ as opposed to /dʒ/.
