Etymology[edit]

From Aramaic כָּנוֹנָא / ܟܢܘܢܐ (kānōnā, brazier), from Akkadian 𒆠𒉈 (KI.NE /⁠kanūnu⁠/, brazier, kiln, stove, hearth; a name of a ritual and also the month it takes place), coming from older 𒆠𒉡𒉡 (ki-nu-nu /⁠kinūnu⁠/).
