Inherited from Prakrit 𑀫𑀡𑀺 (maṇi) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit मणि (maṇí). Related to મણિ (maṇi). Cognate with Kashmiri मन्क (manka), Marathi मणका (maṇkā), and Punjabi منکا / ਮਣਕਾ (maṇkā).
