Ancient Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Connection of -ωΐς with Lithuanian úosis (ash tree) is most improbable. Derivation from Ἀχέρων (Akhérōn) is a mere formal guess. The stem suggests a Pre-Greek word.
