From şiş-. Inherited from Ottoman Turkish شیشقو.
The suffix likely comes from a Slavic language, where -ko is a diminutive suffix. This might be Serbo-Croatian, as the -ko suffix often denotes negative features: Compare Serbo-Croatian debeo turning into debeljko (“fatso”).
