Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bïńĺ(ïk) (cat); cognate with Azerbaijani pişik, Bashkir бесәй (besəy), Karakalpak pıshıq, Kazakh мысық (mysyq), Kyrgyz мышык (mışık), Tatar песи (pesi), Turkmen pişik, Uyghur مۈشۈك (müshük) and Uzbek mushuk.
