Compounded from два (dva) +‎ дзе́сяць (dzjésjacʹ), literally two tens. Compare Old Church Slavonic дъва дєсѧти (dŭva desęti). Other cognates include Ukrainian два́дцять (dvádcjatʹ) and Russian два́дцать (dvádcatʹ).
