Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Vulgar Latin *inclāvāre or *inclāviāre, from Latin clāvis (key) or clāvus (nail) (see also clāvāre (to nail)). Probably influenced by cheie. Compare also Friulian inclavâ, French enclouer.
