Etymology[edit]

Historically Newendorf (having appeared in 1528-1583 Piltenes vaku reģistrs) – Latvian Jaunciems, Livonian Ūžkilā. The German name doesn't allow to draw any conclusions as to which language was the originator of the term.[1]

Morphologically from ūž (new) +‎ kilā (village).
