Borrowed from Egyptian; candidates for the original etymon include mry-nṯr-ꜥꜣ (literally beloved of the Elder God),[1] mꜣꜥ-n-ḏḥwtj (literally true to Thoth), and mry-n-nt (literally beloved of Neith).
