Etymology[edit]
From Gaulish carnon (“horn”), from Proto-Celtic *karnos, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱerh₂-. From the same root are κέρας (kéras, “horn”), κάρᾱ (kárā, “head”) and κάρηνον (kárēnon, “head; mountain top”).
