Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Kουτσόβλαχος (Koutsóvlachos) +‎ -ικός (-ikós), from Ottoman Turkish كوچوك افلاق (küçük Eflak/küçük Vlah, literally little Wallachia), a name used to distinguish it from the greater Wallachia on the other side of the Danube, i.e. Romania. Influenced and reanalised with the similar sounding κουτσός (koutsós, lame), hence literally, lame Vlach.
