Etymology[edit]

Furnée adduces Βάκχος (Bákkhos) (with interchange β/μ) and compares Armenian մահազ (mahaz, lascivious), suggesting that all these words are from Asia Minor. The interchange may also lead to a Pre-Greek origin.
