From Proto-Iranian *ráwčah (“light, day”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ráwčas (“light, day”), from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (“be bright, shine”). Compare Old Persian 𐎼𐎢𐎨𐏃 (r-u-c-h, “day”). Cognate of Sanskrit रोचस् (rocas, “light, lustre”).
