From Proto-Iranian *ráwčah (light, day), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ráwčas (light, day), from Proto-Indo-European *lewk- (be bright, shine). Compare Old Persian 𐎼𐎢𐎨𐏃 (r-u-c-h, day). Cognate of Sanskrit रोचस् (rocas, light, lustre).
