Inherited from Byzantine Greek φασούλιν (phasoúlin), diminutive of Hellenistic Koine Greek φάσουλος (phásoulos), from φασίολος (phasíolos), from Latin phaseolus, diminutive of phaselus, itself from Ancient Greek φάσηλος (phásēlos). Also see φασόλι (fasóli).
