Etymology[edit]

From но́вый (nóvyj) +‎ -о- (-o-) +‎ слобода́ (slobodá) +‎ -ская (-skaja). The newest, colloquial stress comes from the re-analyzed using the compound но́во- (nóvo-) +‎ слободска́я (slobodskája) with loose attachment of morphemes.
