Russian[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

большеви́к (bolʹševík) +‎ -цкий (-ckij).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [bəlʲʂɨˈvʲit͡skʲɪj]

Adjective[edit]

большеви́цкий (bolʹševíckij)

  1. Bolshevistic

Usage notes[edit]

This has been displaced by большеви́стский (bolʹševístskij) in Russia soon after the Bolshevik Coup but not outside the communist bloc. Expatriates have continued to use it and so it is somewhat marked as a word expressing aversion to the reds, if it isn’t completely unknown.
