Etymology[edit]

Possibly borrowed from Russian вернопо́дданный (vernopóddannyj), itself a calque of German treuer Untertan. By surface analysis, ві́рний (vírnyj) +‎ -о- (-o-) +‎ пі́дданий (píddanyj).
