Russian[edit]

Etymology 1[edit]

  • From гор(а́) (gor(á)) +‎ -ец (-ec).
  • From an accentological point of view from adjective го́р(ский) (gór(skij)) +‎ -ец (-ec), which allows us to explain the root stress. Whereas a direct connection of the stem of the word гора́ (gorá) and the suffix -ец (-ec) should have given *горе́ц (*goréc), that is, the stress го́рец (górec) would have to be considered an exception.
