From Proto-Turkic *ētük (boot(s)). Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (etük, soft leather footwear); Bashkir итек (itek), Kyrgyz өтүк (ötük), Uzbek etik, Turkish edik, Turkmen ǟdik, Uyghur ئوتۇك (otuk, high boot(s)), etc.
