Erzya

Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *ozə-, from Proto-Finno-Permic [Finno-Volgaic] *isɜ- (“to sit (down)”). Related to Proto-Finnic *istudak (whence Finnish istua, Livonian istõ).

Akin to Moksha озамс (ozams).

     Сесэ ульнесь Іаковонь лисьмазо. Іисус, кіява молемстэ сизезь, озась лисьманть вакс.

     Śese uľńeś Іakovoń ľiśmazo. Іisus, kіava moľemste śiźeź, ozaś ľiśmanť vaks.

     Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well.
