Inherited from Old Ruthenian тро́йчи (trójči), from Old East Slavic троичи (troiči), from Proto-Slavic *trojьťi. By surface analysis, три (try) +‎ -чі (-či). Cognate with Belarusian тро́йчы (trójčy). Compare Russian три́жды (tríždy), Old Church Slavonic тришьдꙑ (trišĭdy).
