Etymology[edit]

Proto-Nivkh *acik "grandmother, mother-in-law," probably from a Tungusic language.[1] Compare Amur Nivkh атьк (ațk, mother-in-law), атьх (ațx, aunt), East Sakhalin атим (atim).
