Etymology[edit]

From Middle Armenian Աթաբէգ (Atʻabēg), from the title աթաբէկ (atʻabēk), from Ottoman Turkish آتابك (atabek). According to Ačaṙyan, used as a given name by Armenians in the 13–16th centuries. Revived in modern times but quite rare. Notably held by the children's writer Atabek Khnkoyan.
