Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *plew- +‎ -ան- (-an-).

Alternatively, of the same origin as լոգանամ (loganam), Ancient Greek λούω (loúō, to wash), Latin lavo.

լուանամ (luanam)

  1. (transitive) to wash, to cleanse, to bathe; to rinse
    լուանալ զերեսluanal zeres ― to wash the face of; to wash one's face
    լուանամ զձեռսluanam zjeṙs ― I wash my hands of it, I'll have nothing to do with it
    ջուրբ լուանալǰurb luanal ― to inundate, to wash away, to destroy by floods
    աղիւս լուանալałiws luanal ― to wash a blackamoor white, to lose one's labour
  2. (transitive, figuratively) to reproach, to scold
    լուանալ զոք թշնամանօքluanal zokʿ tʿšnamanōkʿ ― to scold, to upbraid, to reprimand, to blow up
