Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The origin is uncertain. Probably borrowed from an unknown Aramaic or Classical Syriac cognate of Arabic خَبّ (ḵabb, deception, fraud; deceiver), or directly from it, if Arabic borrowings in the 5th century are possible.
