Etymology[edit]
The origin is unknown. Looks similar to փաղանգ (pʻałang). The ending is similar to the Iranian diminutive suffix -էճ (-ēč).

- a kind of arachnid that bites stags

- Քանզի եղջերուք առ խածածս փաղիժիցն իմացան փոխանակ դեղ իւրեանց խեցգետի, որոյ կերակուրն անդէն բժկէ։
- Kʻanzi ełǰerukʻ aṙ xacacs pʻałižicʻn imacʻan pʻoxanak deł iwreancʻ xecʻgeti, oroy kerakurn andēn bžkē.

Usage notes[edit]
- Attested only in Philo in the form փաղիժ-ից-ն (pʻałiž-icʻ-n, genitive plural), where it translates φαλάγγιον (phalángion). Some dictionaries reconstruct the nominative as *փաղիժ (*pʻałiž), but this is incorrect as the genitive plural would then be *փաղժից (*pʻałžicʻ).
