Hebrew[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Literally “happy holiday”.
Phrase[edit]
- A greeting used on holidays.
Usage notes[edit]
- As חג (khag, “holiday”) is used by some speakers to mean “holiday” in a very generic sense, and by others to mean specifically a religious holiday (with not all religious holidays even necessarily counting), so חג שמח (khag saméakh) is used on different holidays by different speakers.
