Hebrew[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Ultimately from Hadrami 𐩢𐩳𐩧𐩣𐩩 (ḥḍrmt); see Arabic حَضْرَمُوت (ḥaḍramūt) for more. A common folk etymology derives it from the native Hebrew words חָצֵר (ḥāṣēr, “yard, place”) + מוות / מָוֶת (māweṯ, “death”).
