Etymology[edit]

Relative adjective (nisba) composed of أَطْلَس (ʔaṭlas, Atlas) +‎ ـِيّ (-iyy), after the model of Ancient Greek ἀτλαντικός (atlantikós) and Latin atlanticus, from the name of the Titan Ἄτλας (Átlas) (genitive Ἄτλαντος (Átlantos)).
