Etymology[edit]

Relative adjective (nisba) composed of الْإِغْرِيق (al-ʔiḡrīq) +‎ ـِيّ (-iyy). Probably from Latin Graecus of uncertain origin, perhaps derived from the toponym Γραῖα (Graîa) or from other Paleo-Balkanic forms from a tribal name Graii.
