[edit]From دور (dur) + بین (bin). In the sense of a prospective glass, calque of Latin tēlescopum, tēlescopium, transmitted after this device was invented in Europe in the early 17th century by travellers to the East, which however makes it likely that this sense developed in the Ottoman Turkish vocabulary first.
