Etymology[edit]
Inherited from both Proto-Turkic *kiab (“tree fungus; dry grass”)[1] and *k(i)ab (“peeled skin, to peel”).[2] Cognate with Azerbaijani qov and Yakut кыа (kıa).

- tinder, punk, touchwood, any material used to light fires, but especially decayed wood
- slough, the skin shed by a snake or other reptile when the old skin is outgrown
- Synonyms: سلخ (selh), ییلان قاوی (yılan kavı)
